WIP meme

So, [livejournal.com profile] bas_math_girl tagged me for this meme on Tumblr, and I'm posting my answer here, mostly because I don't get Tumblr. It's probably just not a good platform for me: I'm not a visual person (as you can tell by my crappy userpics). I won't reblog other people's stuff unless it's really really good, and even if I were to write what I want to say there, I'm too verbose for that site - no one will read miles and miles of text.

Anyway, here's the meme. I'm doing it because I looked up the lines it refers to and I'm actually rather happy with them. And, they are obscure enough that you might just want to find out more...

The rules: Go to page 7 of your WIP, go to the seventh line, share seven sentences, and tag 7 more writer-bloggers to continue the challenge.

Thus, he bulled his way through the crowd in the direction of the TARDIS, rubbing the crystal of the screwdriver in his hand with his thumb.

The readings on the instrument were normal, no anomalies in either space or time in this vaulted shopping mall. This was exactly what he expected: a normal day in a normal place. The problem was in his own head. He had definitely been here alone in the Galleria, but he also remembered being in a Chiswick park with Donna, though that was a distant memory, almost as if it had happened to someone else. He spied an empty bench and trotted over to it, sitting down to think hard and try to fix the memory in his mind.

What did he remember about Donna?

This sounds intriguing... What did he remember about Donna? She's kind of unforgettable, even if she can't remember. Sigh...

I had the idea for this story a while back but never wrote it because I couldn't figure out what happened in the middle. My husband and I discussed it last week, and he gave me some fantastic ideas, and I managed to mold it into an actual story. The outline's written - a full outline, with all the details! - so now I just need to sit down and start writing. I'm very excited to actually be inspired to write again, after a couple month's of dryness. I just need to finish this other short story first (the one I showed you back before Christmas).

This one's going to be multiple chapters, and it's going to be rather surprising, in many ways...

Oh, that's good, because I thought it was something you'd already written and I missed it.... Whew!

What should be even more puzzling is that this event happens before "Journey's End". Actually, I've placed it sometime between "The Unicorn and the Wasp" and "Silence in the Library"...

I used to be like that about tumblr, but then my latest fandom is literally only on there, so I kind of had to engage with it if I wanted to fandom. For the record, there are plenty of people who read verbose stuff over there (I may or may not be a little too verbose for the site, too! But people read it anyway!!) and I would absolutely read what you had to say. Is your user name the same? I may go look you up ...

Also, those lines are intriguing. I will look forward to this being posted when it happens.

Yup, same username, but I've honestly posted about five things there total. I'm thinking I should mostly just use it to post links to my AO3 fics. I dunno. I like having visibility, but I think I'm content to stick to ffnet, AO3, Teaspoon, dA, and here. Tumblr just seems like so much work. :)

I need to get to work on this story. I'm kind of excited to have a real direction and plan.

It's easy to understand why you have reservations about tumblr, because it is a very visual online space. I treat it all as a personal scrapbook most of the time.

Oooh, what an intriguing set of 7 sentences. I'm intrigued to know the rest of this story you've started. :D

Part of the reason why I'm intimidated by Tumblr is that I've followed a few people and so when I go there (which admittedly is every few days), I'm just inundated with stuff. Sensory overload. It make me feel like what's the point in posting my own stuff, if it's just going to get lost in the avalanche? And it really seems like a lot of work.

I'm also really not used to how it works, so I spend so much time going, "Where's the button for this?" or "Can I actually post a reply to this? If so, how???" :)

I thought you might like the excerpt. The meme turned out perfectly - saying just enough to set the scene while cutting it off just as it got interesting.

Didn't that just cut off perfectly? I didn't even have to cheat on the meme and adjust it so that it only showed so much.

Very interesting paragraph!

I'm with you on Tumblr. I've tried posting stuff there and I just don't like that you can't comment unless you reblog. It's extremely annoying to me.

YES! I spent so much time trying to figure out how to reply to a friend's post on Tumblr, and finally just gave up, thinking that they had it set to not allow replies. I am glad to find out that I wasn't just missing something!

You've got me hooked with that extract.:)

I'm just trying to navigate around LJ, so I only browse through Tumblr.

I took one of those memory/learners test once. That's how I found out that I don't do well with visuals.

I hope the rest of it comes out as well as that snippet! :)

I like to think I have visual aesthetic sense... and then I just give up after staring at images and having nothing appear to me.

Everybody has their own way of processing information etc. I'd rather learn in audio form. Visual aids are only useful to me when I'm making a presentation. Which is a disadvantage if I wanted to work in Visual Merchandising.

I learn best when listening and with visual aids - what I'm bad at is learning through reading. I'm pretty sure that 90% of my college textbooks were unread, except for the paragraphs I needed to find to finish homework; I mostly learned from the lectures.

Interestingly enough, I'm almost exactly opposite with my skill at producing such things - I'm skilled at technical writing, but poor at speaking and creating visual art.

I heard that most people will forget about eighty percent of what they have just read. That's why its best to keep revising the text you need for your studies.

I can't study under pressure. When I worked on my TAFE assessments almost non-stop, I went into sensory overload.
