I've been meaning to make a post about the cosplays I have created in Guild Wars 2 (which I posted about a couple of times years ago), but have been too lazy to take screenshots.

Yesterday, someone posted their Tenth Doctor cosplay to the GW2 subreddit. I have opinions. :)

Actually, it's not a bad cosplay, once you realize that they were cosplaying Ten from "The Day of the Doctor". He's got the awful hair and the light blue shirt (the Doctor always wore a white shirt with the brown suit through series 2-4). The scepter that the character is carrying is a great sonic. But, as you probably already guessed, I don't think DotD!Ten is a great look to model.

The poster asked for suggestions, so I replied with images of my Ten/Fourteen cosplays - you can see them in the thread, and I might edit this post to add the image here later (I'm on the wrong computer for it right now). Mine are based on series 2-4 Ten, with better hair (and actual sideburns).

The reason the Ten cosplays are coming out now is that GW2 just released an armor set called the Dapper Suit, which is a pinstripe suit (jacket/shirt and trous) with oxfords. Up until now, my Ten has been wearing a long coat over a blue solid jacket with no tie and solid trousers (see the Fourteen cosplay - that's exactly it, except colored differently). With the new armor set, I was able to change Ten's trousers to blue with red pinstripes, though I still can't change the top if I want to keep the coat. And then I have an alternate outfit with just the Dapper Suit, colored brown with teal pinstripes.

GW2 does have a feature called "equipment templates" which allows you to store looks and switch between them with a button press, so I can switch between coat!Ten, brown!Ten, and Fourteen any time I want. :D

Back to the original post, someone suggested that they use a specific item to make it look like it's raining, and the OP responded that they do, but they had removed it for the screenshots. So apparently, the OP patterns his cosplay after "The Day of the Doctor" (so the character doesn't look like he did in any of his other episodes), titles the post with a quote from "Doomsday", and adds a specific item to look like a single scene from "Journey's End". What a strange mish-mash.

As I noted in my response to the OP, I have a bunch of other DW cosplays, and I'll post them here sometime soon.

Work's been a mess lately. The client company spent a year arguing with itself over what it wanted, then said, "Okay, this is what we want" - without a design, mind you - "and you have two months to make it." So we've spent the last seven weeks trying to beat a design out of them and implementing things as facts dribble in. Deadline is next week and they're still making changes. We've been working 10-12 hour days the past week, and I'll be heading in to work in an hour for another one.

I'd like to say it's the nature of the industry, to have crunch times like this, but honestly, if our own company had better processes and could set expectations for the clients better, it wouldn't be this bad. But that's not something that's going to happen - we've had this argument before and it's fallen on deaf ears.

Meanwhile, it doesn't mean I can't take the free 15 minutes I have during the day to do something fun.

My husband absolutely hates calling home to mom.

In other news, I had this completely awesome experience in Guild Wars 2 this weekend. DW-related, of course. It takes quite a bit of set-up, so here goes.

And then lastly... A few days ago, I was looking for something in my room (see "slob" comment in the first cut), tossing clothes into a pile in the corner. I came back later that day to find this:

I probably don't need to say that it's been a tough day. It doesn't help that my husband's sick and pathetic, so not only didn't I have anyone to hug me all day, I have to take care of him and it's depressing how much I don't want to, how inwardly upset I am about doing so. I'm really tired.

It's not all bad... )

Guild Wars 2 has really been taking up too much of my time, and I'm not sure if I'm happy about it. They released the long-anticipated expansion near the end of October, and there's plenty to do and accomplish, but sometimes, after a long session of play, I wonder to myself if I've really had fun.

Actually, I've been a bit down on Guild Wars 2. They're gearing up for the big expansion in October, so they haven't introduced any new content or events for months now, and things just feel a bit repetitive. I go in game to do daily tasks, but that's about it - I log out not much later. We have met some new friends who like grouping with us to explore dungeons, and they're keeping my interest up. I'm hoping that my lack of interest in the game will translate to bit more writing. And I have a couple of craft projects I want to do. Maybe if I'm ambitious, I'll work on sewing a Halloween costume.

On the other hand, GW2 does lend to a bit of creativity. Many moons ago, I posted pics of my cosplays of the Tenth and Fifth Doctors. Well, I have a few more.

I got back into Guild Wars 2 again this weekend, after my friend teased me with the idea of trying to build the legendary Meteorlogicus. Nah, there's no way I'm going to play enough to gather the materials to do that (it would take months), but I do so love that thing.

Anyway, she suggested that I create some Doctor characters, and so I deleted two mules and made new characters, and here they are.
