Yay! Finally home again! Well, back to work now, sadly, but being home is so nice. I really need a vacation from my vacation.

Oh yeah, Europe
Jan. 2nd, 2019 03:57 pmI realized today that I never did write any further entries about my trip to Europe back in September. It seems kind of a waste to do that now, so here are highlights and other thoughts.

Well, here I am again, finally home and back to a normal life. I've been up in Montreal, for exploring and for Montreal Comiccon, and it was honestly fantastic and fun.

I know I said I wouldn't do it...
Mar. 26th, 2017 04:51 pm...but I've bought a ticket for another general con. Yes, I expect it's going to be a madhouse and nowhere near as wonderful as Gallifrey One (which I still haven't written about here, sigh), but come on, it's DT...
Of course, the big news is that Catherine Tate is making the con rounds for the first time in... ever? I honestly never expected she'd do a con, but she's doing one in Dallas and one in DC, and the DC one will also have DT, John Barrowman, and Billie Piper. I really wanted to go to DC, but as a non-white in this political climate, I don't dare go there or to the South. I don't even venture outside of my town in this very liberal state because of the racial and religious incidents going on here. But that's beside the point and I'm just soapboxing. So CT's out, but then I discovered that DT is doing the Montreal Comiccon. I mentioned it to my husband and he told me that I had to go.
It was a difficult decision because I'm really not supposed to be taking time off this year or spending so much money. It's not that we're strapped for cash or anything, but last year really was bad - Gallifrey One, Vegas to meet up with a friend, and then my husband's brother passing away. I had been planning to visit England again this year, but there was just no way to justify taking off that much time and spending so much, so we decided no more trips for this year. However, my husband really loves it when I get to go do things that I love to do, and they are see DT and explore new cities. I think that if the con had been somewhere I'd been before, then I wouldn't have been so interested. He told me, "You haven't seen Tennant for two years, and you'll get to go to -" *gulp* *grimace* "- Canada, so you should do it." So, I've bought my ticket to the con and am now researching Montreal.
The con is the weekend after July 4th, so I'll be flying out on the Saturday before the holiday, then spending the week exploring Montreal (with the added benefit of only having to take off four days that week), then hitting the con and returning on Monday. I will be meeting up with an online friend, which I've found is really the best part of these trips. I met new friends in Victoria and Raleigh, and met online friends in person at both Gallifrey Ones. I am really looking forward to this. :)
Oh, and I'm learning some French. Bon soir!

The first trip
Oct. 18th, 2014 12:38 pmLast month, my friend and I traveled to the UK on our first trip abroad, leaving our husbands home (neither of them like or want to travel, so this was their choice) and exploring freely through England and Scotland. This is actually a bit of a lie; I have traveled out of the USA once before (not counting the day in Tijuana on holiday when I was four), earlier this year, at the end of March. I thought I'd write about that trip now - you'll see why later.

And I'm back!
Sep. 29th, 2014 10:22 amWell, sorta. I'm back from my 17-day holiday in the UK with my best friend, and it was a BLAST! I'd tell you all about it, but unfortunately, I contracted a cold on the last day there and I'm still pretty much floored by it. So, when I'm feeling better, I'll be back. But, I wanted to say hi again to everyone! Hi!
Back and forth
Sep. 4th, 2014 12:12 amI've been gone a few days, due to traveling to NYC for my husband's cousin's wedding. It was a great trip, a first to NYC and the Atlantic Ocean for me: walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, got lost in Central Park. We didn't have much time in the museum, but if we had, that probably would have been the highlight of the visit, but otherwise, I think my favorite part was just walking around the streets of lower Manhattan. Just like when I visited Victoria earlier this year (oh wait, I've never talked about that in this journal, have I? I need to rectify that - it's a great story), just experiencing the city for what it is, watching the people go about whatever they're doing, is just fascinating.
What with all the stuff we had to do with the relatives and the long travel times to go sightseeing, I didn't get much writing done, only working on that little thing I did for Literary Fan Fiction. I did start reading A Writer's Tale, which is brilliant and inspiring. More on that later, maybe. Starting the middle of next week, I'll be more or less absent from LJ until the end of September. Just thought I'd warn you.

And Europe burns...
Aug. 25th, 2014 01:12 pm"Deep Breath" tonight in the theater!! EEEE! If we're able to leave work early (we might not, depending on what my husband has to get done), we'll be going in our Fifth and Fourth Doctor costumes. I need a lot of time to get dressed up because it's really hard to get the edges of my black hair (I'm Asian) colored so that it doesn't look bad with my blond wig. If we can't leave work early, then my husband will probably just wear his scarf and hat over his DW t-shirt, and I'll go in my Ten-inspired outfit (this nifty collared brown shirt over a light-blue tank top and white high-top trainers; sadly, I'm knitting up a brown and light-blue kerchief to go with it, but it's not done yet) and replica brown coat. If we're forced to go directly from work to the theater, at least we're both in DW t-shirts. See, all contingencies are planned for!

Just my luck
Jun. 22nd, 2014 10:04 pmI probably never mentioned this, but my best friend and I are planning a trip to England in September. It's the first trip out of country for both of us (well, that's not quite true; I went to Victoria, BC in March, but that's a story for another time), and we both are very excited. Our itinerary includes London, Bath, and, of course, Cardiff, since we're both fans of Doctor Who.
You might know where I'm going with this.
I found out yesterday that the Doctor Who Experience announced that it will be closing its doors for renovation, to change the Experience so that it reflects the Twelfth Doctor instead of the Eleventh Doctor as the current Doctor. When are they doing this? Starting September 1, and going for six or more weeks.
That's right. The entire time we'll be in England.
That's pretty much ruined my weekend. I really really wanted to see the Doctor Who Experience. I don't know what to do. We might be able to adjust our plane tickets for some other time, when the Experience is open, but that might be expensive. I expect that instead, we're going to just cut Cardiff out of our trip altogether and choose somewhere else to go (maybe Scotland).
Sigh. Just my luck.
