Purple is my new favorite color

Okay, to be truthful, purple was always my favorite color, followed closely by blue. But David Tennant has just been cast as Purple Man in A.K.A. Jessica Jones.

If they do this right, it's going to be fantastic. Purple Man is an ass - complete mind control with no restraint or morals, so he could be completely evil and depraved (as he is in the comics), and that would be an awesome character for DT to play, a more intelligent and cruel version of Feldwebel Kurtz, hopefully. I've been hoping to see him play something more action-y for a while (I've loved everything he's done for the last few years, but I've missed that bit of the fantastic that we haven't seen since 2010), so this is welcome. And while he does evil and insane so well, his mainstream fans haven't been exposed to him doing it very much, so that should be a wonderful shock.

I have to admit that I am surprised that he's landed a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I really didn't expect it. He's been doing serious drama and light comedy for so long (ever since he left Doctor Who) that it looked like he wasn't interested in doing sci-fi or fantasy anymore. And I suspect it's really difficult to get into the MCU, because it's so big and popular right now.

It's about time Marvel cast him in something of theirs. While I would have preferred him as a superhero, we all know he has the skill to pull off a villain and a creepy sounding one at that.

Just one question though: does Purple Man have an American accent? Because I don't think I could take the character seriously if David uses the accent he had in Gracepoint. I hope he gets to keep his Scottish accent or, at the very least, he has an English accent. Villains always sound cooler with English accents. ;-)

Oh, I am SO HAPPY he's going to be a villain! I've really wanted to see him do real evil (not campy evil like Roderick Peterson or Piers Pomfrey) ever since Colditz. And Purple Man is supposed to be depraved. OH YES! (in best Tenth Doctor voice)

No news on the accent. The character is supposed to be Yugoslavian, according to Wikipedia, so I'd expect he'll be doing an English accent, since American shows pretty much use English accents for any foreigner other than possibly French or German. ;)

I'm lucky- my husband pretends to be indifferent to DT but secretly, he really enjoys him. Not quite as much or in the same way as I do, but he gets it. And I can't WAIT to see Tennant Tuesday on Tumblr this week.

My husband is pretty indifferent to DT. He doesn't take to one actor or actress over any other. He's very pleased that I've become such a fangirl, though - I've never been devoted to a celebrity more than naming a few faves, and he loves that I've found one that I just adore. He loves to pretend that he's disgusted every time I mention DT, though. ;)

I'm wondering when purple photomanips of him will start to appear. I'm very much picturing a purple version of that shot from "The Waters of Mars" where he's reprogramming the robot with that crazed grin on his face.

Ah, they point out that they're not calling him Purple Man so far, so perhaps he won't actually be purple. Maybe they're going more toward the treatment Arrow is giving their characters, having him not adopt a supervillain name. (In Arrow, Ollie doesn't go by the name Green Arrow, and, for example, John Barrowman's character is never called Dark Archer.)

Yes, it's live action. There's some speculation that they might not go with the purple skin, because the MCU does not have mutants (Fox owns the rights to the mutants), and so the only non-human-looking characters have been off-worlders (Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor 2, for example). Since Purple Man is human, people think he'll be normal-looking with purple clothing, but that's all speculation. After all, the news is only a few hours old.

Personally, if it's just purple skin (no other prosthetics), that might be really hot...
