That is "The Actor", translated into Russian. The translator, a young woman in Belarus, enjoyed reading it so much, she asked me for permission to translate it into Russian and post it on the Russian fanfic site. She finished it in about five days and started posting it this weekend.

This is just so... unbelievable. That someone would spend the time to take one of my stories and do this. I don't even know what to say.

I don't know a single word of Russian, but I now know that "Доктор" is "Doctor" and "Дэвид" is David. *grin*

I've had a couple of requests to translate fics I've written, one Chinese and one Russian I think? (Russia apparently has quite a vibrant HP fandom) maybe a French? Anyway, it sure is a weird feeling, isn't it?

I had a request once for permission to translate the same piece into German, but that person never did it. I didn't expect her to. But then I didn't expect this one to do it, either.

Ohhh, that is so exciting! Getting translated is always an awesome experience :D I've been on both sides—translated and translating—and it's always so rewarding and exciting all around ^_^

That is so cool! I wish I knew a language well enough to translate something. I pretty much know how to count and ask where the bathroom is in Spanish, French, and Japanese. (Not that I would understand the answer to the question in any of those.)

I have a little understanding of Japanese - it was my mom's first language (though she never taught it to us kids) and I used to watch a lot of Japanese TV shows when I was a kid, so I picked up a little. I can't speak it, but occasionally I can point out when the subtitles on the animes we watch aren't correct. :)

It's very different from the Romance languages and German. The grammatical order is different (subject, object, then verb), but I think the weirdest thing about Japanese is how situational it is. For example, you might count normally ichi, ni, san, but if you're counting things, you use different words depending on what you're counting. For example, people (hitori, futari, sannin), flat things like paper (ichimai, nimai, sanmai), animals (ippiki, nihiki, sanbiki). You even use different words depending on who you're talking to (gender, rank compared to yours, etc.). It's a nightmare! A fun nightmare, though. :)

I see :D I'd learned the very barest basics of the grammatical order, but didn't know the counting thing. It's a bit unsettling, but also logical (well, though the counting of people I had more trouble understanding ;)). And yes, I heard that the rank and politeness are very, very complex too, though I never reached that level of complexity, haha. I was still learning my first kanji and barely looking at verbs that weren't desu/dewa arimasen and the like when I dropped it because school was starting again, and I never really found the time to get back into it :/ I just always want to do so many things… It's a bit frustrating, hard to sort out the priorities from the rest. It was so much fun though! ^_^ A lot to learn, but worth it!

What's really cool is that learning even a little bit of a language teaches you a lot about the culture - what they feel is important to be communicated.

Yes, exactly! I've learned ever so little because cultures just run so deep, but I've always loved that anyway ♥
