Fanfic Writing Meme #23
Jul. 19th, 2014 06:34 pmExhausted. Another parade and concert today, and then I went over to my friend's house to plan our England trip. Not that we got any of that done. :)
23. When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
Short entry today, partly because I'm exhausted and partly because this is a pretty boring question. LiveJournal, ffnet, whofic.com, AO3, and now deviantArt. I'm either Shivver or Shivver13 on these sites. I like having people read my stuff, though dA seems to be quite a wasteland for fanfics. There's plenty of them, but their interface for literature is pretty horrible.
I think my favorite place for fanfics is AO3. The options they give for organizing fics are good, and the default skin for the fics makes it easy to read. Ffnet is difficult to read and feels like it's a website rooted in the past while the rest of the fanfic universe has moved on. Whofic.com is great for DW fanfic, but its base software is very limited.

Date: 2014-07-20 06:43 am (UTC)So you're everywhere, too! ;) Pretty much agreeing… I used to be a FF kind of girl, but I've mostly moved on to LJ and AO3 now, especially since I moved into the Who fandom (I was mostly into Harry Potter before).

Date: 2014-07-20 06:13 pm (UTC)Performing - I'm in a marching band (picture a bunch of silly people, ages 40 to 70, just walking along having fun), though I'm also in other concert bands, too. I hadn't played music since high school, but I joined a concert band a few years ago and am loving it!
I try to post in a lot of places. Though I write for myself, I enjoy having people read what I write. I need to stop expanding to more sites, though, because when I find a typo, it is such a PAIN to go correct it on five different sites! :D

Hahaha, same here! Posting takes longer and longer, too… but a wider readership makes it worth the trouble! ;)

Date: 2014-07-20 06:28 pm (UTC)Definitely have a system - and FF.Net is the last place I post to (just because fixing typos and stuff can be such a pain here. Not hard, just tedious...nevertheless, I always wind up having to fix SOMETHING).
Three quarters of my posting strategy is making sure I have as little to change as possible, lol!! I then go and take a template that I have cobbled together in my documents, put in the relative info and links and post to comms here at ElJay. Sounds ridiculous, but saves loads of time, really.

Date: 2014-07-20 06:42 pm (UTC)Ah, Dreamwidth. I thought about creating an account there, but I think I've really hit my limit on places I can keep up with.

I just use if for fic, really. I've been going through steadily wiping out misc. posts off and on for the last year. I never do anything there...just use it as fic-backup.
