Gallifrey One 32i: Day One

Registration day isn't considered the actual first day of Gallifrey One, as far as I know (I could be wrong), so today was Day One.

We actually had other things to do today so we postponed a couple of the planned activities until tomorrow. We instead visited the Video Room (Gally has a room set aside which plays episodes all through the weekend; I believe they just got rid of it actually, because they need the space for more events) and watched "The Eleventh Hour" and "The Lodger". The episodes were chosen randomly: we rolled a die first for the series number (modern DW only for today) and then again for which episode. Then we had a panel discussion. Well, not really. We just chatted about the episodes, but we tried to be all pompous and academic about it. ;)

We did visit the Dealers' Room... which basically means we checked out some of our favorite merch sites. Rubbertoe was first, as we normally hit their table as soon as the doors open Friday. However, their website seems neglected. It features mostly sonics and accessories for sonics, and their big new product, the vortex manipulator, but if you look through it, the dates they list for their releases are last year. Sonics are cool, of course, but the Rubbertoe table usually offers other collectibles, like Gallifreyan coasters, the Moment, and the confession dial.

Then we checked out Big Chief Studios and I have fallen in love with the Sixth Doctor figure. Interchangeable magnetic cat pins! Their work is excellent - I have their two different Tenth Doctor figures and their Ninth Doctor one - but I'm still waffling on Sixy. (Their new site's awful, by the way: difficult to navigate and their lazy loading is truly lazy, as in slow, slow slow. Some of their package decisions are questionable as well; check out the "River Song Expansion Pack" and tell me if it makes sense to you.)

Lastly, I took a look at the crystal TARDISes. Last year at Gally, I bought Nine's and Ten's crystals, with the intention of buying one more each year (knowing full well that they probably will disappear before I am able to collect them all). Well, this year didn't happen. I do want Fivey and Seven, but I can wait. I'm pretty sure that they were significantly cheaper at the con than they are online.

I did check out that expansion pack and... I don’t get the logic of it either?? I mean, the screwdriver & the diary make sense. But why the Adipose? I mean, they’re cute & I want one... but still...

Aw dang! It didn't even occur to me to think that Gallifrey One might be doing an online event this year like everyone else. Usually it would be impossible for me to attend because it's the same weekend as a different convention I'm completely committed to. Oh well.

Naw, Gally didn't do any online event. Unlike the other cons, Gally is a non-profit organization. All of their people are volunteers working for free and the con is run solely on the money they get from the tickets they sell. No tickets to sell means no money for them to do anything, and they don't have an infrastructure and manpower with which to build an online event.

When I read your comment, at the time Gally 2022 hadn't been scheduled and it was expected to be in March because the Super Bowl is going to take over the area it's in during February, so I was hoping you'd be able to make it. However, they announced just recently that it's the weekend of February 18, so I expect it won't be good for you again. :(

What con do you go to during that week?

I guess I misunderstood what you were posting "Day One" and "Day Two" (etc) of, then?

I've been going to PantheaCon since 2003. They were already going to call it quits after 2020 even before coronavirus, but that sure threw a wrench in the plans of its successor (same weekend, same hotel) Between the Veils. Late last year they settled on doing an online event in May 2021 and now won't be holding their first in-person event until 2022.

Oh! I see! Yes, you probably missed the previous entry. Since Gallifrey One 32 was postponed until 2022, my husband and I had our own Gally on that weekend, which we called Gallifrey One 32i (since i is an imaginary number). We did DW-themed stuff at home. :)

I looked up PantheaCon, and thus atheopaganism, and it all sounds very interesting - an interesting way to cross atheism with the need for spirituality and community. Sorry to hear that the original con ended. I hope Between the Veils can take off once this all ends!

Not sure what you mean by "and thus" atheopaganism. I think there have been a couple such workshops on the schedule in recent years, but the general attendance and program offerings are quite a broad cross section of (theistic) pagans, Wiccans, witches, ceremonial/Hermetic-type magical practitioners, Druids, Heathens, and all kinds of vaguely similar things (including occasional people of traditions that do not usually consider themselves "Pagan" in the modern, western sense, like Native American spiritual traditions or Hindus).

Ah, I see the issue. I googled Pantheacon and the page I landed on simply said it was a con for atheopaganism. I admit I didn't read the whole page, so it might have gone into more, but the first line had that word, which I didn't know, and I went off to find out what that meant. Not sure which page it was, but it's definitely my fault for not reading more about the con itself.
