Today marks twenty wonderful years with the silly man who is my husband.

You can tell we're gamer geeks. It's been the joke for the past month or so that twenty years of marriage is a milestone that awards 3 achievement points and that we're trying so hard to not divorce or murder each other before we get them. APs are hard to get, so you have to make sure you keep striving for them and don't mess it up when you're almost there! Twenty-five years gives 10 AP, so there's some incentive to stay together for another five years.

I could write an essay here about how happy I am with my husband and what I think has made our marriage successful, but I'm really not into the mushy stuff. Suffice it to say that my husband is my best friend first, that he's the person in the world that I want to spend my time with and that he'd say the same thing about me. We work together like a charm (literally as well as figuratively, as we've worked together in various companies for almost as long as we've been married - we actually have the reputation in our industry in this town as being a team) and share many common interests, while also having our own separate interests that we encourage in each other.

It's almost unbelievable that we've been together for twenty years, as it just doesn't seem like it's been that long, but on the other hand, there's no other life that I can even imagine, no better marriage or husband. Here's to the next twenty wonderful years!

Thank you!

25 AP and a bonus box with Time Crystals and your choice of a steel weapon (steel gives two swings instead of only one!).

Ooh, nice; I'm in! Actually, we know each other 36 (gasp!) years come this fall.... met in college, taking the same science courses and going into similar fields. It's good to know someone so well.

We actually have known each other for 20.75 years. About 4 months after meeting each other and starting to date, my company said my job was being transferred across the country in about a half a year. I couldn't pass up the opportunity, so I told him, and he said, "Well, then, let's get married." Did so 5 months later, and the rest is history. :)

Wow... I was reading your paragraph about your being best friends first, etc. and that is totally the same for us. We knew we would get married, but wanted to finish college first (he was only 17 when we met! I was just 18, too early to marry). We did marry when he was in grad school (1st year). While it's not always smooth sailing, if you are friends and partners first, you can get through tough times. All that flowers and rose-colored glasses stuff? Eh, that's just surface; the deep stuff is what counts, the reality. That's what keeps it together. Well done! As you say, here's to the next 20!

That is certainly the only way it works and the only way to make it last. Friends and partners first!

Happy anniversary to you both!!

Writing something that ends up gushy can be extremely problematic. The only time I tried to do that about my husband, LJ ate the whole lot. It's a sign, I tell ya! ;)

It's just not me, you know? If I ever write something like that about my husband, you'll know my account got hacked.
