I saw the word "douchenozzle" today and it just applies so well right now. Normally, I like to think that I have a pretty good handle on who I am, what my strengths and weaknesses are, and I'm pretty good at judging people's actions and discarding things that just aren't important or relevant. And then there's today.

I just posted "A Meeting of Minds" on dA today, and not too long after, I receive a message asking, "Do you take requests?" I've never had anyone ask me to write something for them, so it was very surprising. Of course, I only write for myself, and only ideas that really interest me, and my interests are very narrow (DW only, adventure, no romance), so I'm a poor choice for asking for a request. I wrote back and told the person as much, but said that he could ask. He sends me this synopsis of a story involving a cowgirl centaur, kicking ponies into space, a thief in a saloon, and explosive flatulence. I replied with something like "I only write DW, and anyway, it sounds like you've already written it," then deleted his messages.

What the bloody hell? I'm really pissed off. I can only think of two motives for sending me this shite. The first is the person really wanted this story written (which is possible, judging from the crap that he's written, in his dA gallery). If that's the case, don't you think he'd look at my profile and think, "Hey, this person only writes DW. Like, 98%. She probably isn't the person to ask." The second is that he was trolling me, and I think this is the probably the more likely scenario. And this just horks me off. I have enough problems with confidence in my writing; I don't need someone pretending to pay me a compliment and then just making fun of me. Not to mention, don't waste my bloody time!

I have a feeling more brownies are going to make the ultimate sacrifice to my wrath.

Whoa, that was a bit of a crazy request. Don't let him bother you like that, he's not worth it!

Brownies? As in baking them or eating them? Bread is a good thing to take your wrath out on, if you're making it. You can beat the living daylights out of the dough! I'm told it's good therapy. As for me, I use a food processor to do the kneading for me.

Yeah, I know. It's just that I took the time to be nice and reply back, and that's the kind of thing I get. :P

Eating them. Our lunches at work are catered and yesterday's desserts were brownies with white chocolate chips. I normally don't eat anything sweet (I haven't touched their desserts in two years), but this and the stuff I talked about in yesterday's post made me hit those brownies really hard. They were yummy! :)

Yes, yesterday's post was also an annoying situation. How could he take a vacation without giving any notice right at the end of the quarter? That's truly obnoxious...

Yeah, there's like four of us who are going to talk to him on Monday and express our thoughts about this past week. At least all the pain is over now and today will be just a normal work day.

Oh, I love this image. I am saving it for an appropriate time to send it out at work. :D

People are just really, really strange sometimes. If I had to guess, this person stumbled across some of your work while not actually being a fanfic reader or part of the fic community, liked it, recognised your writing was better than theirs but then fell into the trap of thinking their own ideas were so great that you would overcome your reluctance to write outside DW in order to write this great idea of theirs.

I mean, you see something similar all the time in the people who post fanfic in inappropriate places clearly convinced that their writing is so good it will win over all the people who don't like that fandom/don't like that ship/don't like that trope. Heck, it took me a long time to realise I'm not a good enough writer that my plots and ideas are ever going to win over someone who's mostly in fan fiction for the porn.

I mean, it's definitely weird that they thought you'd think explosive flatulence and cowgirl centaurs were the unmissible plot of the century for which you would make an exception, but it could easily have been something much more mundane which you just felt rather `meh' about.

I dunno. Take it as a complement (they liked your writing and recognised you were better than them) and file it away as a good funny story you can tell in fanfic circles (because, hey, cowgirl centaur and explosive flatulence, you could pay good money for that kind of weird fanfic feedback story).

Thanks! That's really how I have to think about it, because it angers me otherwise and I can't let it affect me like this. I just can't grok, though, that if a person really wants a particular story written for them, they don't go through the effort of finding the right person to do it. *shrug* It takes all kinds, I suppose.

I swear...what is wrong with people. And I think he was likely a mixture of both. A troll that had no idea he was a troll. UGH. I've gotten many requests outside the realms of what I work in. A few that were...a lot like this (in context, mind you). It is always boggling and upsetting. WTF.

*Hugs you hard*

Thanks! I still have no idea what a person like is even thinking. But it takes all kinds, doesn't it?

Ugh. I blame this on complete idiocy, tbh; it doesn't really need further explanations, does it? =P

Frustrating shit. Not worth a second thought, really, but frustrating. *hugs*
