While hanging out at my sister's house, my brother-in-law turned on the TV and started flipping through channels. Doctor Who happened to be playing and we caught a glimpse of a scene as the channels changed. It was about a second of an explosion. My husband exclaimed, "What episode was that?" and I immediately replied, "'A Town Called Mercy'. That was the spaceship blowing up." He stared at me, then made my brother-in-law go back so we could prove it, and of course, I was right. Funny thing is, I've only seen the episode twice, but it was still completely obvious to me. :P

LOL, tell me about it. It always annoyed me in that one episode of the Big Bang Theory when they're watching DW and Amy remarks, "For a guy with a machine that can travel anywhere, Doctor Who sure does have a thing for modern day London" and you could tell by the music that the episode they were watching was "Silence in the Library", an episode which does not take place in London.

Oh, wow, really? I hadn't noticed that when I saw that episode! Good job in spotting that!

I doubt the average (ie not wholly obsessed) fan would've made the connection, but I am truly obsessive, and as SitL is one of my favorite episodes, I've probably watched it at least half a dozen times, if not more. That, and a lot of the music in SitL is unique to the episode, whereas in other stories they may recycle the same music from a previous episode, so you wouldn't be able to tell the difference just by listening, unless there were dialogue to go with it. One of the things I love about rewatching DW though is that you almost always notice something you didn't the first time around. Like I didn't catch that very brief glimpse of Rose on the TV screen in Midnight until maybe the 4th or 5th time I watched it, and then I was like "how did I miss it the first time?"

I did notice that SitL has very unique music. I listen to a lot of Series 4 music on my iPod at work, and a lot of my favorites appear in that.

Yes! DW has tons of hidden or subtle things that you see in later viewings! I've also noticed that the show is almost always better on the second viewing, when you catch some of those hidden things and the plotlines become clearer.

It's those small, wonderful moments that make it. :)
