Yes, it's snowing here in Oregon, which is a strange phenomenon for us. We normally get one snow each season, usually in February and usually a half inch that doesn't stick. But this time, I woke up yesterday to at least three inches on the ground (not quite in time for a white Christmas) and more fluttering down all day.
About fifteen minutes after I woke up and goggled at the snow, I heard a flock of geese fly by, honking like anything. I'm sure they were very confused and in a hurry to get anywhere but here. I imagine the honking either meant, "Dammit, Karen, you said one more day, one more day, and look where it got us!" or "You gonna stop and ask for directions now, Ronald?"
Today it's not snowing, and so it was time for shoveling the walks, which no one else in the neighborhood has seen fit to do, so we're pretty proud of being the first. We used snow shovels that we bought after the last time this happened, about four years ago. We hadn't bothered to shovel until a few days into the snow, and when we went to go buy shovels, all they had were ones designed for kids. So we spent two hours trying to chip the snow (which by this time had been stomped to ice) from the sidewalks with this tiny shovel, and we made a point to get full-sized shovels as soon as any store had them.
This time, it was about a thirty minutes' work, and we aren't exhausted, but that last bit's the Oculus' fault. Since the last time I posted, which was just after Thanksgiving so about a month ago, we've been diligently playing our VR exercise game, at least twice a day, and I'm sure that's why we have fared this well.
A week and a half ago, while my husband was out at an appointment, an Amazon box was delivered to us. I'd been expecting a Christmas package from my sister and a couple of other things I'd ordered, so that wasn't unusual. I cut open the box and pulled out... an Oculus Quest 2. I stared at it for a moment wondering why I'd just received a second Oculus - the first thought was that Amazon had mistakenly sent us a second one... two weeks late for some reason. It actually took a half a minute to realize that this was my sister's Christmas package.
I called her up and she was disappointed that we already had one. Her son had come to visit early in December and had brought his, and she loved it and thought it would be perfect for us. I told her it was especially perfect because we'd already been discussing getting a second one - it was frustrating switching back and forth between the two of us on one headset, partly because we wanted to play different games, partly because we wanted to play at the same time, and partly because our markedly different head sizes require constant changes in the strap. (If you're wondering, mine's bigger, by about an inch in circumference. When I bought the Panama hat for my Fifth Doctor costume, I had to buy their biggest size.)
Anyway, long story short, we now have two Oculuses. Oculi? Whatever. We plan to try some multiplayer games but haven't gotten around to it yet. I got the workout app Supernatural on recommendation from my sister and it's awesome. You box or swing swords to the music while standing in some amazing places on Earth. It focuses on strength and movement, while Beat Saber is faster and acrobatic, so I get two different kinds of workouts. And boxing is hard. But over the month I've built up enough stamina and reflexes to move up from the "normal" Beat Saber mode, and am doing the "low-intensity" Supernatural workouts without panting. So that's good.
In other news, I've been looking back at my writing output and been very disappointed. One story all year, back in May. It's not like I haven't been working on stories - I just haven't been working on them diligently. I have a number of WIPs that I've been picking at, so I am thinking of devoting myself to finishing them, with a goal of posting four by the end of January. Wish me luck.
Anyway, I hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season!

Date: 2021-12-27 10:34 pm (UTC)I wish we got snow, it’s so lovely. It was 70 degrees here on Christmas Day. ( Which was nice, but still)
You’re better than me- I haven’t uploaded to Ao3 in about a year. :p
