shivver: (Ten with kitten)
I just wrote a story (for myself; it's not going to get published) and my husband read it and said it was "ok." I could tell that there was more behind that statement, so I asked him if there was any particular part he didn't like. He said yes, I liked this and this, but not this, and it would be a good story if you cut out the part from here to here. The part "from here to here" is the main part of the story, comprising 75% of it, and the whole point of writing it in the first place. Turns out, he didn't like the concept of the story.

I wouldn't have had a problem with it if he'd just said, "I really didn't like it. I didn't like the concept, but the end part was good." I'd have been disappointed, of course, but otherwise, that's what I want to hear. No one is going to like everything I write. But it bugs me that he said it was "ok" and then it turned out that it really wasn't. Is it really so hard to be honest with your opinion?
