Notre Dame...

I'm just devastated. Gothic architecture has always been a fascination for me, ever since I started studying art history, and Notre Dame du Paris is the exemplar. I've always wanted to see it, and when I started playing Minecraft back in around 2010 or so, that's what I chose to build - the whole thing, to scale. I still have the blueprints, multiple pages of mapping out the floorplan and the levels and the towers and the spire and the buttresses, block by block. I never finished it, but I did get to about 75%. I didn't know how I would do the stained glass, because at the time, glass in the game was uncolored.
When my sister suggested we take a day trip to Paris during last year's Europe trip, I told her we would go to Notre Dame. She didn't want to go, but I insisted. And it was beautiful. Breathtaking. There's just no way pictures could capture it. It's not just the building. It's seen so much history and faith. It housed great art, as well as some of the greatest treasures of the French people.
And now this. I feel so privileged to have gotten the chance to see it in person. I'm crying. To the people of Paris and France, the followers of the Catholic Church, and the lovers of great art and architecture everywhere, I am so sorry.
