shivverI've been sitting on the fic that I posted this morning for a couple of weeks now. I had the idea for it stored up for a while, but finally wrote it as an entry for the "Old Friends" prompt at ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
who_contest. It came out ok and did exactly what I wanted it to do, but it certainly isn't interesting or good enough for an entry. Since I'm working on a different entry (which may or may not get finished), I figured I might as well post this one.
11. Genre – do you prefer certain genres of fic when you're writing? What kind do you tend to write most?
Ha! Two questions for the price of one! What do I want to write? Adventures. I want to write stories that are basically episodes. My two long fics, Mistaken Identity and The Actor, are both adventures (the second one a series of adventures). By definition, anything I write for Doctor Who is science fiction, and this particular sci-fi universe is very forgiving. DW doesn't try to explain its "science," and so you can make almost anything work if you throw in some technobabble. (Though I have to say, because I am a science nerd, some things really stretch my suspension of disbelief almost to the point of ruining episodes for me. The solution to "The Poison Sky" comes to mind.)
What kind do I tend to write most? I mostly write one-shots, so they aren't adventures (which seem to take a while to set up and resolve). I think the stories that interest me the most are ones that explore the characters before or after the episodes they appear in, to see how their experiences with the Doctor affect them. I like extending the fiction of established episodes. And, I like multi-Doctor encounters. Those two types make up about 90% of the one-shots I've written.
