Gallifrey One just announced its latest two guests: Catherine Tate and John Barrowman!!!

OMGOMGOMG.

They've been saying that they haven't been able to announce the last few guests they've been trying to add because they've been in negotiations and the people are modern DW stars, which are harder for them to get in the first place. My husband and I have been speculating on who it might be, and my guesses were CT, JB, and Christopher Eccleston (he's now a possibility since he attended his first con in London last July - I thought he would be a remote possibility for Gally, as the only modern Doctor who Gally could possibly afford) - I guess I was right on the nose.

I... I am not sure I'll be able to work at all for the rest of the day.

My son did cosplay as Ten, and got CT to hold a banana like a sonic. Brought the banana home to me... such a sweet boy! Anyway, she's game for whatever, I would think. And didn't Helloprilly give her a bound copy of her first fanfic (the book weighed a ton, I'm told)? Or was that DT she gave it to? I think she got them both to sign a copy for herself....

Prilly gave a bound copy to both of them. The first was DT in Montreal - that was the one I with her for, and he also accepted my gift as well. And then about two months later she met CT and gave her a copy. And both signed her personal copy. I have to admit, she's amazingly confident. :) I could never even consider getting one of my stories printed, let alone give it to someone.

That was an amazing story, though... still, I seem to remember something about DT telling people that fanfic goes to some really dark places (I guess referring to the NC-17 stuff) and there she goes, handing them a copy! I wonder if either of them ever read it.

It was entirely hilarious! We went for autographs about an hour before the panel and that's when she gave him the book. He was impressed she'd written the book, and he said something to the effect of, "I'd love to have it. I can't promise to read the whole thing, but I'd love to take a look at it." And then we went to the panel. Someone asked a question about fanfic, and he went off on this rant about how these fanfic writers were having his character do things that never happened in the show. I don't remember if he said it directly, but he was absolutely talking about smut between the Doctor and companions. He definitely was not talking about dark stuff as in violence or evil. Prilly was enjoying it, but she was a bit embarrassed that the book she'd given him was exactly what he was talking about.

At the end of the rant, he asked the audience, "Any of you out there write this kind of stuff?" Prilly and I were in the very front row, front and center, and we raised our hands. (I don't normally write that stuff, but I'd just written "Hard Evidence" for Blue Rain, and while that isn't technically his character, it's a Tenth Doctor AU, so I figured what the hell...) And he pointed directly at us and yelled, "Well, STOP IT!"

Personally, I'm sure that he (and every other celebrity) discards fan gifts, because they just get so much of it. But I'd like to think that he'd take the time to at least look at something that someone obviously put so much time and love into.

Or they have a room for it... I know, Prilly put a lot of effort and time into that novel, and even took the time to edit before sending it in to be bound. She and I were PM'ing about how you were in the front row. She did not say he was pointing directly at you two! I think I saw on YouTube about his comments. He definitely was talking about the smut, always had a hard time with that sort of thing.... Poor Prilly! Oh yes, and you, with "Hard Evidence," I remember that one!

I know I freaked out like a little kid when I saw the news on Facebook. As little as I need to be spending money right now, I bought a diamond pass and two additional photo ops. Come on, it's the Ginger Goddess!

Thankfully I don't need to think too hard about what to have her sign. There's a DW Magazine about the first BF series that I got DT to sign back in June. So that one's easy.

But now I need to bring my cosplays, which I wasn't going to. For a change. However, I need a new top for my Donna cosplay; the old one was too big for me to look right. :(

Oh, I will! My husband and I go to Gallifrey One every year now, and it sells out immediately so you have buy tickets 10 months in advance, long before they've even started thinking about planning the con. We were already excited about the con next month, so this is just glorious beautiful delicious icing on the cake. :)

I looked at the diamond pass and I'm still not sure about it. It features two photoshoots - I only want one - and two autographs - again, I only want one - so the only real draw is the meet-and-greet, and I'm a bit hesitant on that. Have you attended a meet-and-greet before? It's a 30-minute event, and to me, it sounds like if there are more than 20 guests at that event, I'd get a whopping 30 seconds to actually meet and greet her. I'm not sure that's worth it to me.

I've attended one of the evening meet-and-greets, the one two years ago for the Big Finish "Gallifrey" cast, and it was disappointing. Basically, you crowd around a little table with about 7 other people and the celebrity comes to talk to the group for 5-10 minutes before he/she's ushered on to the next table and the next celebrity comes for his/her moment. And because of the way people work, the attendee who spoke first dominated the celebrity's attention the whole time. (And at the one I went to, the handlers didn't move the celebs around fast enough, so Sean Carlsen, who I adore, never even came to our table.) I realize this one is one celebrity, but I'd be upset if I paid for it and didn't get to say a word to her. So I'm probably just going to take my 10 seconds of saying hi to her while getting the autograph and be happy with it. :)

I have that DW magazine! Two of them, actually. I've always meant to get one of them framed and hung on the wall.

I have a couple of ideas for autograph items, but nothing really concrete yet. It's only been a few hours to think about it so far. :D

Because if I still lived in TX I could've met her already, I guess I'm making up for lost chances. And since I have at least one friend who can't go, that uses the other autograph. I didn't even notice two photos also listed.

I've been to two evening receptions before. Those few minutes were still nice ones to have, and there were nice conversations with the others at my table or area. So... I had to jump on it. If only to make things a little easier once there. (As in, bringing a smaller amount of cash to spend.)

Well, that sucks. I've known people like that. I know this much: I won't let someone deny me the chance to speak for even a few seconds with her. Whatever happens, I'll have plenty to think and talk about. Now to figure out how to phrase the questions I intend to ask. :)

The receptions have gotten better. We had a blast last year with Terry Molloy. And, in my case, since I go with a fairly large group, we make up one table ourselves, so there's no discussion-hogging!

I had to cough up for the Diamond Pass. I may never meet this wonderful woman again and (as she is my spirit animal!) it's a necessity.

Yep! I was in a staff meeting at work when the Gally FB notification popped up. Of course I had to check it, since they were announcing new guests. I actually squeed a little and had to apologize to my co-workers. Luckily, they know what kind of freak I am.

Then I send an all-caps IM to dtstrainers!! Had to share the good news!

Yeah, there was nothing we could at ours. The little tables only seated 6 people, so we had to stand, and of course, both of us are short. And for some of the celebs, we could barely hear them. The seated people kept trying to edge out the standing people, too, probably because they wanted to get in on the conversation and while they couldn't get past the one person monopolizing the whole thing, they could prevent the rest of us from catching the celeb's eye. The Kaffeeklatsches are so much better - it's too bad the big celebs don't do them. Not that I'd ever get in on time to be one of the first twelve for them. :)

I hope you get a good conversation with her! She's going to be delighted to find out how much she's really loved in the fandom. :)

That's really unfortunate. I know that each successive reception has been better. They also moved them to a bigger room, IIRC.

I am going ot be putting ALL of my "appointments" on my phone, since last years I missed out on my 'official' photo with Sylvester McCoy. Luckily he was gracious enough to let me take a picture while he was at his autograph table, and I had a friend with a REALLY good camera!

I do too. I hope I have the chance to ask her about a sighting I had of her a few years ago in my hometown of Westchester on Easter Sunday morning at a local eatery!

If I'd been at my old job, I would have danced around because they're all fun and they know me. Here at my new job, they don't know me and they're all kind of sticks-in-the-mud. So I just jittered in my corner until my husband got back from his meeting and I could take him outside and squee at him. :D
