Snowflake Challenge - Day 12
Jan. 12th, 2018 09:09 amOh god...
Day 12
In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a podfic, an icon, a sketch, a meta, or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Cross stitch. Draft an essay about a particular medium. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of book you love, a ship manifesto, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Create something.
Now, this challenge was preceded by this text: "Today's challenge is one of the hardest for me. I’m a podficcer by trade, so every year I attempt to write fanfic, with words. I scream and cry and tell myself to STOP DOING THIS BECAUSE EVERYONE WILL MAKE FUN OF YOU AND THINK IT’S TRASH. Then I take a deep breath and close the Google doc. However, today, I’m going to be brave like all of you and post a fanfic that I wrote on Tumblr and tidied up a bit."
I believe that this day's challenge is meant to encourage you out of your comfort zone, to create a fanwork that you normally wouldn't go near. So, I am going to post an artwork.
As you all know, I'm a fanfic writer. You might also know that I play in concert band (not well; as Lionel described the theatre community in Perth in "The King's Speech", I'm just "enthusiastic"), so I do some music. What I don't do is art. I'm not a visual person: I don't think in those terms and don't express myself in that way. I'm very interested in art history, but for the history part, not the art part.
However, one day a few weeks back, I picked up my sketch book (for some reason, I buy sketch books, use about two pages, then lose them; I swear 60% of the storage space in our house is taken up by unused sketch books) and a pack of cheap marker pens, and drew the following free-hand from one of my favorite images off Google. It came out rather well (for me), and I'm rather proud of it.
Bonus: I've used three pages in that sketch book!
