I am at work today, doing my duty, despite the fact that open casting calls for extras for DT's new movie are going on in Portland right now. If that isn't dedication, I don't know what is!

I mentioned this to my boss, to let him know just how loyal I am, and he said, "Why in the world are you still here?"

In other news, this came up on my husband's FB "On This Day": his status from one year ago today.


Sleep No More's creation process:

Mark Gatiss: Moffat, I just can't think of a monster for this episode.

Steven Moffat: Try, Mark! Plumb your brain. I'm out of ideas myself, having just cast Arya Stark as Arya Stark in the last episode. Took all my imagination.

Gatiss: What about... a cyborg race of killing machines, real competent and generally effective monsters?

Moffat: Mmmm... not feeling it.

Gatiss: What about... some kind of wolf thing, REALLY fast, and with HUGE teeth and MIND LASERS!

Moffat: Mm. Fast. Not something I think the show needs. I mean, angels were fast but we always had the characters look at them to stop them, so they were really slow.

Gatiss: I... mm. Well, I dunno then.

Gatiss Daughter: Daddy I have stuff in my eye!

Gatiss: That's just eye-sleep, sweetie. You can brush it out.

Moffat: Mark.... MARK MARK MARK THAT'S IT! MONSTERS MADE OF EYE GOO.

Gatiss: HOLY CRAP MOFFAT YES YES THAT IS WHAT WE WILL MAKE!

Moffat: And now I can make Capaldi do a speech on how holy and sacrosanct sleep is, he will hate it, hahaha I love making him say stupid things.

Ever notice that men in movies have no chest hair? I've noticed it before on characters that are supposed to be Mr. Universe bodybuilder types, such as Rambo, Schwarzeneggar characters, and Thor, but it seemed really weird to me when the non-studmuffin Stephen Strange was smooth, especially since his hands weren't steady enough to shave; maybe he carries cans of Nair when he travels? Unless BC really is that hairless.

Is bodily hair that unattractive? I thought maybe it was an American or a Hollywood aesthetic, but some British shows do the same thing (though again, maybe Matt Smith is also hairless). (Side note: the only two times that I've seen DT topless in a show, he had hair; maybe he refuses to shave?)

No idea why I'm thinking about this - it's like the only thing from Doctor Strange that has stuck with me since I saw the movie. Weird.

DT, as in your icon, as in David Tennant? Cool! I didn't even know he was doing another movie. He's really a busy boy!

Then again, I think extra work is hard work. I mean, really hard work. I've read a report once and I am really not sure I would want to do it. It didn't sound glamoury at all. The people are used like furniture.

As for the body hair, I think it is the recent times. If you think back of Magnum, or David Hasselhoff in Baywatch, which are just the first two that come to mind and had very hairy chests. It's only in the past years that hairless is the new beauty ideal.

I also know that they made William Shatner wax his chest, as hairy was seen as "too sexy" back in the Sixties. I have a picture of him from the "Battle of the networkss", just in speedo, and he is VERY hairy - not just the chest, also the arms and legs. And now look at my icon ;)

Yup! He's always working. In fact, when Big Finish got the rights to do audios with the Tenth Doctor, it took two years for them to finally get him into the studio to do it. He had agreed immediately, but insisted on working with Catherine Tate and it took two years for the two of them to have three consecutive days free at the same time to do it.

You saw MAAN live twice!!! I am so jealous! That was an amazing performance, by the entire cast.

You're right! I hadn't thought of Magnum and Baywatch. Good point.

I'm sure that people now look at that icon and go, "Wow, they really went for sexy in Star Trek!"

Wow, they sound almost as bad as getting Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman together for some more Sherlock!

Yes, that was my first trip to London. We had tickets for one show, but as soon as we came out of the theatre I said that I want to go again. At the time we did not know yet whether it would be filmed. But we signed a petition. Even the actors signed it. It was for a DVD but the download was at least something.

We took part in the raffle of leftover tickets, so the second time did only cost 10 GBP!

We were there every day. You had to wait two hours before the play ended, to be in first row. You could not go on the same day when being in theatre. My icon is from there also.

All I wanted was an autograph but then I saw everyone taking a picture so I said the next day I want a picture as well. And at the fourth day or so, when we had the important autographs, we stood to the side and got all the other actors. Now that was fun - there was David and Catherine in the background and we did not pay any attention to them. Same old, same old LOL The other actors were happy that someone wanted them too.

I'd love to see him next year but I am totally broke. Bought too many action figures ;) So I'll have to hope for a cinema viewing or DVD release.

Oh, if I were still working at my previous job, I'd have been there. They were a lot less strict with PTO. And honestly, I do feel a lot more loyalty to this new place.

Depends on heritage and the like. My husband has no chest hair and he has Native American in his background. Personally, I've always found chest hair rather non-sexy, but that's just me, I suppose!

Also, also, I applaud your strength in going to work, lol!!

To me, it depends on the amount of chest hair. I like some of it, but I dislike FUR. :D It just feels so fake to me when a casual male in a film is completely smooth.

You know what else I look for? ;) Pit hair! Ever since that famous video of John Barrowman in the bath tub (do you know that? Where the dog jumped into the water?) which really shocked me as he had shaved armpits. I can forgive the smooth chest but I feel a man should have some (neatly trimmed) armpit hair. I think he has some hair back now but he's definitely a shaving guy!

The "monster" in Sleep no More looks like it was Moffat's idea, yeah. Personally, I think Gatiss tried to make a "Moffat episode", just without 'lines that are supposed to be funny but aren't', and failed.

About chest hair, I think it's a recent thing. When I see a hairy man in a film, I know the film is from the 90s if not older. For me, hairless chests on tv are unnatural in the same way shaved legs of women in medieval times are, or perfect hair after hours of running. It might look better, but makes the film world less real, so it's fine in superhero films that don't try to be real anyway, but would look weird in a drama if it was OOC. One condition for the chest hair looking good - don't make it a jungle. Too much is too much.

I don't think Benedict is hairless, but he has pretty light hair so maybe he shaves the chest when he's dyed black?

Yeah, David doesn't shave but I don't know if he was ever asked to do it ;) Hairless Hardy would look ridiculous. I don't know about Matt, but maybe his chest hair is just delicate ;)

Moffat really loves monsters tied to bodily functions (or prevention thereof). I think Gatiss tried to rewrite "Dead Air" and Moffat had to put his two cents in. Btw, have I ever ranted about how much I hate the artificial horror and tension they try to create with the slow monsters in this show? I should do that sometime. It's cathartic. :)

"...perfect hair after hours of running..." You just reminded me of a theory my friend told me. She believes that ever since "Day of the Doctor", Clara has sometimes been a Zygon. She says it's possible since Clara only travels with the Doctor once a week, making it easy for a Zygon to switch in, and it explains why her personality and abilities shift so wildly between episodes (she believes that in the episodes in which she's more human, reasonable, and compassionate, she's the Zygon). But mostly, she points out that Clara must be a Zygon in "The Girl Who Died" because she had perfect makeup and hair after two days of hard labor.

Yes! Too much is too much! :D But nothing in a non-ideal world (superhero = ideal) is just odd to me.

Oh, I forgot that BC is actually light-haired. I expect, though, the chest-hair choices are usually dictated by either costuming and makeup or whoever it is that decides what look the film should have.

I wish I could be in Portland (they're casting today, too)! But I figure DT is not going to actually be at the casting for extras, and there's no chance I'd be selected. The casting call said to "dress in your best upscale clothing" - I don't have upscale clothing. Ah well. :)

I don't recall :) I think someone did it in a chat show with David (or was it with Matt?), the person said Cybermen aren't scary because you can simply walk away from them. It's a good point.

Nice theory about Clara being a Zygon sometimes. Her behaviour varied so much that I didn't notice when she was actually replaced by Bonnie. I think it weakened the impact of the story. In Day of the Doctor, I sometimes think Ten was a Zygon, that would explain a lot...

Sure, I'm just saying it would look weird if he had black hair on his head and dark blonde/ginger on his chest.

This waxed look just looks too much like a mannequin to me. I don't like it on men.... but then again, I'm a little older.

Wow, DT is a busy boy! Good for him.... and definitely good for us!
