shivver: (Ten with kitten)
Truth in advertising.

Now I've come to the point in my collection of old works being posted in this journal in which I have to start posting chapters of my only other completed long work, Mistaken Identity. I'm rather proud of this one, if only because it was my first multi-chapter story and because it's a crossover and I managed to actually fit it into both universes' canon. I plan to put up a chapter every two to three days, interspersed with other stuff (since I still haven't posted all of A Teacher and a Housemaid as well as things I haven't started yet). Anyway, chapter 1 tomorrow, or maybe later tonight.

I have another multi-chapter story that's about 80% done. I actually started working on it about two weeks before I started working on The Actor, and for a while, I was working on both of them (actually, working on them on alternating nights - for a while there, I wasn't interested in working on either of them two nights in a row). Then The Actor started really coming together and I couldn't put it down, even after it was complete and I started posting it. (The last chapter was a real problem for me, and even though I had finished writing, I kept re-reading it and tweaking it, every night, for about 1.5 months. There's a part that I re-wrote from scratch five times, not counting the extra tweaks I did after selecting the rewrite I preferred.) So, the other story has stayed at 80% done for about 3 months now. It has two chapters to go, and I really don't know what I want to do in those two chapters, so it's just stalled. I'm really hoping to get inspired on it soon.

I am looking forward to going back and editing/reworking that piece, though. One thing that seems to really help me is to print it out and edit on paper. I did that for The Actor and for some reason, it came alive a lot better for me to have it on real paper - that was the only really huge edit that piece got. I hope to do that with the new piece, if my boss will allow me to waste that much ink (I provide my own paper when I do that). Last time, The Actor took 84 pages.
