dw_guestfest's Minor Character Ficathon, 2017. This is the first chapter of a three-chapter story, of which I've only finished two chapters. The first chapter stands pretty well on its own, so here it is. I will post the other two chapters when I get the third chapter done, which I hope will be relatively soon - I plan to work on it during Camp Nanowrimo.
