This is a really lovely story, I'm loving how Martha cares for him, tending to him and staying by his side as he pleaded for her not to go, even as that could get her in quite some trouble. It was very moving and highlighted their connection in a wonderful way, both the extent of Martha's loyalty to and affection for him, and his own attachment and trust. The difficulty of Martha's situation was insightfully portrayed, and I liked the way you depicted the matron too—of course, for her it was incredibly unseemly that a maid would dare speak up like that, and she couldn't fathom that Martha's knowledge actually way exceeded her own, she thought she was doing the best that could be done… still—I smirked along with Martha as she couldn't find the cocaine, thank goodness =P Mr. Smith acting more sick than he actually was, then playfully acting the whiny boy at the end, also made me smile. It was a really lovely story, thank you for sharing it! :)
